America needs 60,000 Family Medicine- General Practioners (GP's). 60,000! One-third of those in general practice are at or close to retirement age, 56 million Americans currently have no access to a doctor, and 47.5 have no healthcare insurance. Many clinicians believe diseases occurring in later life are related to neglected diseases and obesity related diseases in early life. It is believed 80% of type II diabetes to be related to obesity; 70% of Cardiovascular disease related to obesity; 42% breast and colon cancer diagnosed among obese individuals; 30% of gall bladder surgery related to obesity; 26% of obese people having high blood pressure; and Childhood Obesity in America is out of control, while the cost of surgical intervention to correct the poor quality and shortness of life is most often too expensive.  Vigilant Society has an alternative for you!

GP's say the reason more young physicians turn away from General Practice and turn to specialization is the money. Unfortunately, Medicine is a business and no one can blame physicians for specializing in a field where the money exists. However, this is where the cycle of poor health begins, for without family and general medicine practioners to man the front lines of medicine there is no wonder that specialization is absolutely necessary and waiting for them in a patient's later life. The American society must encourage patients to adopt a healthier life style. The life style cycle is now clear!
