Vigilant Care Foundation salutes the many physicians and surgeons who donate their precious time to helping children in all parts of the world. Frequently these care givers discover children who are sick, burned, injured, and with severe birth
defects living on the edge of life and death. Many children cannot be helped due to the lack of skills available on scene. In those cases where a child is ambulatory and their physical condition permits travel to reach health care, these children may reach the referral desk of Vigilant Care Foundation. This is where Vigilant Care Foundation comes to assist in accessing world quality specialized surgical care and/or transportation. Without the doctors,
nurses and other medical professionals who donate their scarce time, without
availability of the precious few resources and capabilities of reaching
the vital care, many children might may not survive and:
- many children will go without treatment.
- many children will have no chance for a full or normal life
because they cannot reach a care givers.
Vigilant Care Foundation is fortunate to have physicians serving on its Board of Directors and as Consultants who have traveled the globe. Such professionals deeply understand the frustrations of the traveling physician who donate their time and skills to frequently
discover a patient who cannot be helped due to unavailable skills on site. The second best choice is for the doctor to go to the patient, but this is often impractical. Vigilant Care Foundation believes in opting for a third choice in taking the patient to the care provider
by the quickest possible route and the lowest costs available,
whether by private or commercial means.
We're dedicated to helping children access specialty medical-surgical services unavailable at the child's location. Sometime this is a simple airline reservation and ticket, while other times it is a bit more complicated with
a canoe ride, a jeep across a desert, a helicopter or an airlift for
the patient or the care givers.
How the Foundation functions
Through its donations and grants from Vigilant Society and others, the Foundation strives to facilitate access
to health care services unavailable to children at their location. When considering requests for assistance through the Foundation,
Vigilant Society considers criteria including: availability and location of surgical-medical skills to serve the
child, severity of the child's condition, impact of the requested service on the child's quality of life.
Vigilant Society thanks the Private and Commercial Pilots who
often donate their time and expense to our efforts in assisting
children to reach a care giver. Each Year Vigilant Society
elects an airline partner of the year to provide Vigilant Flyer care
for our special young travelers. Be sure to look for our 2009
Vigilant Flyer Care Provider of the Year, coming in January
2010.
